Information About the The Parents of Teens Questions Survey

Who is doing it?

Dr. Neil McGillicuddy, at the Research Institute on Addictions (RIA), at the University at Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York. Visit www.ria.buffalo.edu to learn more about RIA.

What’s the purpose of this survey?
  • In the Buffalo area, we have developed a special program to help parents stressed by their teen’s drinking or drug use.
  • The purpose of this survey is to see how many parents of a teen who has a drinking or drug use problem would be interested in the program, if it were expanded to their geographic area.
  • The expanded program is not being offered right now, but might be in the future, depending on interest, and whether we can obtain funds to support it. So, your opinion is important to us.
What does the survey involve?
  • You will read a brief description of the program we’re thinking about expanding to all of Upstate NY.
  • You are then asked 20 questions about your interest in it, and about yourself.
  • It will take around 10 minutes, once you start.
  • You don't have to answer any question you don’t want to.
  • You can also stop the survey at any time.
How anonymous, confidential, and secure is it?
  • We will not ask you for any information that would allow us to know who you are.
  • We do not place cookies on your computer.
  • We do not save your computer’s Internet Protocol (IP) number.
  • Your survey responses are encrypted to prevent others on the internet from seeing them.

If you feel uncomfortable taking the survey here, please call toll-free 1-888-202-5851 to take the survey anonymously over the phone.

Any risks to taking the survey?
  • The survey is anonymous. So, the risks to you are small.
  • If your teen finds out you participated, it could cause conflict between the two of you.
Any benefits from this survey?

There is no direct benefit to you, but you will be helping us determine interest in programs that could possibly help you and many others in the future.

Do I get paid for doing this?

No. The survey is short and anonymous.
